Benefits

When you are old enough to apply for benefits, we will help you do this. Your PA will support you to make your claim for Universal Credit (UC) on your 18th Birthday. If you have applied for benefits and are waiting to be paid, we will pay you a weekly living allowance for up to four weeks to help you live while your claim is processed. 

Remember:

• you must attend your appointments
• it is a criminal offence to lie to the benefits office. You will also need to show your PA that you have applied for benefits
• if you don't attend appointments with the Job Centre and don't keep to your agreement to look for work without a good reason, your benefits may be stopped

Benefit options

Universal Credit is a monthly payment to encourage you to get into paid work.

Council Tax Exemption - all care leavers will be given 100% exemption from Council Tax until they turn 25. 

Your PA will advise and support you with applying for benefits and attending appointments.
