Child Protection Conference - help from NYAS
If you have been told that a Child Protection Conference is taking place, this is because someone is concerned about your safety.
A Child Protection Conference is a meeting where people such as teachers, social workers and parents come together to talk about these concerns and share information.
You have a right to know what decisions have been made about you.
How advocates can help you
NYAS advocates are independent from professionals such as social workers, police and your parents/carers.
Their advocates listen to what you want, inform you of your rights and empower you to get your voice heard.
We ensure your wishes and feelings are expressed and acted upon to improve your situation.
Their advocates work just for you and are on your side.
An advocate from NYAS can:
- meet you before the Conference to talk about your wishes and feelings
- explain to you about the meeting, your rights and what will happen
- help you to communicate how you feel
- come to the Conference with you, if you want to go. The advocate can attend on your behalf to give your wishes and feelings if you do not want to attend
- help you to understand what decisions are made about you
